Recently bought a project car.
1998 Honda Accord EX 2.3L V4 Manual, Fully loaded, Power Everything. 394k km's.
Been about a month since I purchased it, it has some minor body damage which was quickly fixed at my home, new fender, hood and light assemblys.
The vehicle loses power around 2.5k rpm in 2nd gear, theres major back pressure which causes the vehicle to lurch forward and sputter a bit.
Things the previous owner changed: Altenator, brake disc's, pads, battery and distibutor cap.
Things Ive changed: O2 Sensor, Fuel Filter, plugs, wires and a new serpentine belt. (most of these needed to be changed anyways)
Anything I should have tested at an auto shop?

Mine has a spoiler and needs a paint job :P

No clue, I have not smelled melting clutch plate yet, its stiff, grabs perfectly.
Not sure if the timing belt has ever been touched either.

If the timing chain and water pump have been replace I wouldn't worry about the mileage unless it was drove really really hard...imo.

Any codes being thrown?

will let you know when I have time to bring it in to get retested.
The original owner was apparently an older lady, mostly highway driven.
Previous owner to me said he would let the vtec kick in every now and then but says he didnt ride it too hard other than the occasional chirp leaving a stop sign. (cant really hold that against him)
I'm now finding this is a widespread problem with this model in numerous forums found via google.
I'm also noticing this doesnt happen at all as long as i keep a small amount of pressure on the accelerator.

BALANCE SHAFT SEAL!!
Do it with your timing chain and water pump, preferably soon.
I had an ex 99 f231a cg5
Great little car.
But, they don't have retainers on the balance shaft, so do that and replace it with the seal and retainer kit.
Also:
Try cleaning out your EGR and upper/lower plenum of the intake manifold. Should help out with the sputter a bit, and check the point on the ignition coil inside the distributor.
They often go out, hope this helps!
