The boulevard, then the shadow. An M series boulevard to be exact. Smooth, reliable, good fuel mileage, looks pretty sharp.

Any preference as to why? I am looking at buying my first bike and I am going to be buying it during the winter so that I can get it a bit cheaper. I feel like I can work the price more during the winter!

That Goldwind is very nice but that'll be out of my price range. :) I'm looking to spend around 3500 at the most right now (when I purchase). It's going to be my first bike. My brother is trying to talk me into getting a honda rebel to start off with but I feel like after two weeks im going to want to upgrade and that bike is just going to be too small.

A boulevard M50 would be perfect for you. It's 50ci or 800cc and makes plenty of smooth power to get you around without sucking gas. It is still very light and nimble for a cruiser. I worked at a Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki dealership when the model years you will be looking at are new. The Shadow is a good bike but looks a bit bland to me. I like some of the color schemes on the M50. One of my friends bought one and i rode it a good bit. They are very reliable, comfortable, and smooth. Kind of the opposite of a Harley. Not to mention you will be looking at a 10-12 year old sportster in that price range.

I got 35mpg out of that m50 beating the shit out of it to keep up with sport bikes. 40mpg would be pretty easy even with a lot of city traffic.

I think the boulevard is a nice looking bike! I'm not going to be trying to go 120 mph or anything. I just want it to ride back and forth to college since I will be commuting and my school will be around 30-45 minutes away. I will also use it to drive to my fathers in the Outer Banks, NC so comfortabily is a MUST!!! Can you tell me what I should look for when buying a used bike? I don't know many people out here let alone one who knows anything about bikes. My brother has a small bit of riding experience but i don't trust his mechanical abilities at all haha

Mileage is important. The lower the better. 25k+ is high miles on a cruiser. Look for obvious signs of wear and leaks. Check the tread on the tires, the oil level, the operation of the clutch and brakes, and listen for any weird noises. These bikes are very quiet and smooth with the stock exhaust.
