I was suppose to get a new tag before November 1st, but im going to the local tag office to get a new tag, which is november 3rd.

Should i bring my car or my friend's car to the tag office?

This is the Georgia late fee.

and how does the fee add up? http://dmvanswers.com/questions/1549/Is-there-a-late-fee-or-penalty-for-expired-vehicle-registration-in-Georgia

i bought my car for $3500 in May 3rd 2013.

I'm still a college student, and if my calculations are correct, (over $400 in fees), i cant afford it.

What can I do?

I didnt think it was nearly that much, but I could be wrong. I debated paying mine late as I was in the process of updating my license and a few other things at the time too. I was fairly certain it was a cheap fee.

The valorem tax is new. I am not sure how it works. It's based on the value of your car. You seem to be basing your numbers of 10% of the sales price. It should be 10% of what the tax was when you registered it. Expect it to be around $100 in penalties imo. I live in SC so ours is a bit different. It's like $75 for late renewal.

you're talking about renewal right? i was late this year since i forgot about it. went from $130ish to $170ish iirc. it's not that bad.

/edit i'm in GA too

/edit2: you should have gotten the bill in the mail. it should list the late fee

My tags expired on my van in Jan of 2014, I've personally skipped a year of tags every other year, as long as the expiration year tag color matches the year you are currently in it's generally fine.

I haven't been pulled over yet, I should probably renew the tags though, it's just a $10 late fee here, so a total of $85

May I suggest moving to a cheaper state?
