Was looking to pick up a 1999 Jaguar XK8 on the cheap, mostly to win a bet and a joke for the wife. But it has a cracked windshield. I can deal with dings, dents, and scratches, but the windshield would need to be fixed.

Just curious if anyone has a price idea of the repair cost. I was hoping like $400, but Ive never had to fix a windshield before.

I feel bad asking real companies when I feel like its a waste of their time. Wasn't sure if anyone here had any dealings with new windshields before.

200-400 depending on where.

Girlfriends mom just had to replace hers in her 2014 Nissan.

If the windshield was like mine it is like 1 grand lol. I better never hit a
Rock.

this....

How is potential business "wasting their time"?

And it totally depends on what kind of windshield you need. Newer ones typically have night/day sensors for automatic lighting but seeing as to how yours is a 99 jag I would probably say around 200

Only lopewhole around that would be that the car is tagged, and you can "claim" it happened soon after you bought it and have driven it some. If it isn't tagged that idea will not pan out because on inspection that will be flagged.

Call a good auto glass company like safelite, it is in no way a hassle and they would be glad to give you an estimate for the job. I know first hand from my gti I bought with a cracked windshield, was 200$ and they came to my shop :)

All cars vary in price tho

yes this is also true because I used to see people running around campus advertising that they would do windshield replacements and give you 50$. (insurance reimburses them)

i have never paid more than 200$ for a windshield

call company A get a quote, call company B tell them you got a quote of $XXX then wait for them to knock the price down, and take that lower price to company C or back to A and see if they will go lower

continue between how ever many you want till they wont beat the price any more

safe lite has always given me the best prices in the end
