My dads been having some issues with his truck so I came up to help out and I'm stumped. If you turn the key the truck won't even try to start. If I get down and cross the solenoid on the starter you can hear the Bendix kick out and spin, but it isn't coming out far enough to actually catch and turn over the engine.

So I figure the starter needs rebuilt, but I don't know why the starter won't turn at the key. Any help fellas?

Probably unrelated but
my machine here at wwork wouldn't start witj the key, and read low voltage. but I could jump the starter with a piece of wire to start the machine.

Was a bad ground, a main ground

Or anoother more likely option is the starter gernaded on the inside. Make weird things happen because shrapnel is everywhere

starter is toast imo or the starter solenoid that should be right above the passenger wheel well is toast

Smack the starter with a hammer and try again
