I totaled my car about a week ago and I'm going to start looking for a new one. I'm thinking of looking into a 05-06 Scion tC or possibly a V6 05 Mustang. But when I said that I wanted to get a tC to my friend he said that they have known transmission problems and advised me to stay away from them. Has anyone heard or know anything about known problems with tC's? They're made by Toyota so I don't know if I should take his claim seriously, he's also the kind of person who says random shit just to have a say in something. But I'm going to be commuting for school next semester and I'm just looking for a good reliable car that won't destroy me on gas. I'm going to try and keep the price less than 8000 dollars. Anybody have any other suggestions on what I could get that's nice and reliable? I'm also considering Hondas and Toyotas but I really like tC's and Mustangs so they'd be my first choice. All suggestions are much appreciated and thanks for your time.

Here's your deciding factor.

If you don't have to drive in snow/ice... get the mustang.
If you do have to drive in snow/ice... get a the tC.
