Which is a type of?

Rodent

If you have bare wires that is a very likely cause of the problem.

there is a good layer of grime all over everything so i can't really tell if the sleeves are messed up.

rewiring will take less time than trying to figure out if its wired wrong(shit tons of electrical tape all over), shorting, or a ground issue.

damn redneck electricians!

If the wrapping of the electrical tap is uniform it is probably factory. The wiring is pre wrapped by machine prior to installation on the assembly line. They use velcro and polymer wraps a lot on the new stuff and less tape.

nah its like some drunk guy tried to splice wires and then just left them hanging...they got ripped off...he got drunk and did a worse job than before.

there are single wires with 4-5 splice spots ,wires cut directly off the harness, wires just hanging with bare ends, at least 1 ground wire severed and left severed.

it has a second ground wire so idk if the ground is the issue or not.

also the backstory in this is the rear running lights+tag lights had no power. the wiring for them had been cut off the harness and they tried to cram them+the tag light wires into 1 crimp which fell off.

installed led tag lights and wired them to the unused ground+the new running light wires i had to fix.

Wouldn't be a ground issue if lights are turning on. Sounds like the power wire is bare and touching a bare wire for your gauge lights. Unless some pins in the ecm are touching
