I drive a 2004 pontiac grand prix GTP (supercharger 3.8 )

I have never had any issues with the transmission, and I recently had a new radio installed on the vehicle.

Now when I start the car up. and put it into drive, the car does not engage into first gear. Rather it appears/sounds to stay in neutral. But if I switch the car into Manual mode to use Taptronics (i have tap shifters) the car automatically switches into first gear and I can drive around fine as long as I keep manually shifting. But lets say im manually in 4th gear, and switch into drive, boom it goes back into neutral.

Any ideas on why my car won't engage first gear when in Automatic/Drive but will go into first gear when I enter manual mode?

Is is possible when I had the radio installed they messed up some electronics?

Also, when the car is in drive, my display shows that the car is in drive, so it knows that I want to be in drive, but isn't engaging the first gear unless I am in manual mode.

Please help :/

Put it on reverse and then let someone push it forward while your foot is on the brake

or it's probably a rust problem inside the transmission

If it was a transmission problem wouldn't it also affect the car while I was driving in manual? I also checked the transmission fluid and the level appears regular and the fluid is a nice clear red

Ive tried :/ since 2006 only 3 internet posts have been made with the same issue as mine, and none were resolved online. I tried finding emails of the people who posted the questions so I could ask them what it ended up being, but I had no luck tracking down the users.
