So I'm driving home in my Lincoln (4.6) today, when I notice steam coming from under the hood and the temp gauge is 3/4 to the top when i got about 50 ft from my house. Pulled in and couldn't believe what had happened.

So what you see here obviously is the coolant temp sensor, looking old but fairly normal. But attached the to bottom of that sensor is the intake bung that the sensor threads into. I have never had anything like this happen. Any ideas on how to fix it short of a new intake manifold?

get a 3/8 npt -> next bigger size adapter bung

drill out and tap manifold to new larger threads matching your new adapter.

Or try that aluma weld stuff. But that's pretty Ghetto.

or...chances are, the threads of the manifold aren't fucked, it's probably just the adapter, which are very prone to corrode.

So you may be able to just replace that part. But if you can't, refer to my post above this.

Aluma weld is kind of like a solder.

You get it at harbor freight, and you heat the area to be sealed with a torch, and then once it hits a certain temperature once you touch the aluma weld rods to the area, it will flow out sealing everything.

Yeah but nobody else seems to have the amount of issues with theirs that ford does.
