my 2003 Volkswagen Golf got totaled last week (was victim of a hit-and-run and repair costs > car value)
insurance is giving me back 2300$

im 23 y.o and live in Montreal
i have a budget of ~7500-8000$ (CAD)

car needs to be automatic, very reliable (ive had terrible experience with the Golf) and have low gas consumption

im looking at kijiji right now and i see a 2010 Yaris with 28,000 kilometers listed for 8000$, this looks like a good deal to me and im looking for other similar deals before i make a choice

Just because it snows doesn't mean you need awd you yank. Anything toyota/honda thats newer that you can afford would be your best bet

yea they evaluated the car @ 3000$. I looked at kijiji and thats seems like a reasonable valuation, although an automatic Golf with 120k kilometers is pretty rare.
then they deducted the franchise of 500$ and some ~200$ for "value of scraps" something like that

as for the repairs i would have needed 1 new door, 1 wing, 1 back bumper so i guess it had to be totaled
