got a cod p1004
pcm reflash

although my car is out of warranty. anyone think it will cost to get this reflashed?

2nd time this code been up within 3 years had the tranny and engine re flashed once already.

seeing as it is not a recall but a TSB meaning that it is a known problem and should be reflashed, could i possibly argue the dealership into doing this for free. since they " know" about the issue. because frankly i dont want to pay #350 for a reflash if they know about this problem and still making somsone pay for their manufacturer defect.

code is for short runner valve.

could i possibly just buy new hardware? or is this strictly a sensor related problem. thanks

Depends on the dealer. My dodge dealer does flashes and updates for free.

that code is a short runner valve performance code

$75-$150 for reflash and updates is what i paid.

i had a 06 hemi charger r/t, 2011 challenger r/t, and now a 2014 challenger r/t.

dont bother arguing with them because service bulletin is just that; a known issue. They arnt legally obligated to fix anything for free on a TSB.

You can always ask around though to find a free flash but good luck.

But before you waste time on reflashes, you might wanna go right to the source of the problem and actually fix it

edit: being the code that it is, and i know what it is cuz i had it, run some injector cleaner though the car one and see what happens first

The upper intake plenum is sealed so getting to the shit is near impossible so dunking the entire unit in a cleaner tank would be the best bet ( i soaked mine in the parts cleaner tank at the farm lol)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some customers may experience MIL illumination with no other symptoms noted. Upon

Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN®) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in
TechCONNECT, verify all engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If
DTC's other than those listed above are present record them on the repair order and repair
as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above DTC is found perform the Repair Procedure. After the repair, perform the
verification procedures listed at the end of this bulletin.

NOTE: The StarSCAN® diagnostic scan tool fully supports Internet connectivity.
However, to take advantage of this feature you must first configure the
StarSCAN® for your dealership's network. Make sure the StarSCAN® is
configured to the dealership's network before proceeding. For instruction on
setting up your StarSCAN® for the dealer's network refer to either:
“DealerCONNECT > Service > StarSCAN and StarMOBILE tools > Online
Documentation”, or refer to the StarSCAN® Quick Start Networking Guide.
The StarSCAN® Quick Start Networking Guide is also available on the
www.dcctools.com website under the "Download Center".

NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides approximately 13.5
volts. Set the battery charger to continuous charge. Do not allow the charger to time
out during the flash process. Remove the charger from the battery when the flash
process is complete.
2. Connect the CH9410 StarSCAN® ethernet cable to the StarSCAN® and the dealer's
network drop.
3. Connect the CH9404 StarSCAN® vehicle cable to the StarSCAN® and the vehicle.
4. Power ON the StarSCAN®.
5. Retrieve the old PCM part number. Using the StarSCAN® at the “Home” screen:
a. Select “ECU View”
b. Touch the screen to highlight the PCM in the list of modules.
c. Select “More Options”
d. Select “ECU Flash”
e. Record the part number at the top of the “Flash PCM” screen for later reference.
f. Select “Browse for New File”. Follow the on screen instructions.
g. Select “Download to Scantool”.
h. Select “Close” after the download is complete, then select “Back”.
i. Highlight the listed calibration.
j. Select “Update Controller”. Follow on screen instructions.
k. When the update is complete, select “OK”.
l. Verify the part number at the top of the “Flash PCM” screen has updated to the new
part number.
NOTE: Due to the PCM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules
(TCM, BCM, MIC, SKREEM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some
DTC's may cause the MIL to illuminate. From the “Home” screen select
“System View”. Then select “All DTCs”. Press “Clear All Stored DTCs” if
there are any DTCs shown on the list.

NOTE: The following step is required by law when reprogramming a PCM and/or

de-energized state, does the SRV return to 50% + or -5%? when de-energized?
a. Yes -Check and Clear ALL faults -No Further Action is Required.
b. No -Proceed to Step 7.
7. Use the following diagnostic flow to determine SRV malfunction:
a. Verify wiring integrity using the information found in
DealerCONNECT>TechCONNECT. If wiring problems are found make repairs and
confirm correct operation starting with step 3 above. If wiring problems are not
found, proceed to b.

check your oil also, the msd systems on the cars are picky as fuck. you have to run a 5w20 on the hemi's

if you run anything else, that code will more then likely appear also. You can in some cases get away witha 5w30 but just stick with the 5/20

Charger Owner's Manual p. 288

Engine Oil Viscosity (SAE Grade) — 2.7L and 5.7L
Engines
SAE 5W-20 engine oil is recommended for all operating
temperatures. This engine oil improves low temperature
starting and vehicle fuel economy.
The engine oil filler cap also shows the recommended
engine oil viscosity for your engine. For information on
engine oil filler cap location, refer to the Engine Compartment
illustration in this section.
NOTE: Vehicles equipped with 5.7L engines must use
SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper
operation of the Multiple Displacement System (MDS).
Refer to Multi Displacement System under Starting and
Operating for details.

if im not mistaken. the upper intake plenum is where the air is directed riht into the intake manifold? where it is directed either way? these new cars are a bit tricky. thats why i loved my old cutty and monte.. everything was so easy and spacious to get to. hell i have to unscrew 376375634785 bolts just to get the damn top cover of the engine. haha. but i will try that and see if it can get cleaned next weekend.

but im googling upper intake plenum becase frankly ie never dealt with that part on any car ive ever had. and all i see coming up is throttle bodies. is the plenum behind the throttle body if i take it off? earlier this year i took the tb of and cleaned it thoroughly was gunked up.

but lemme know or if u know where it is exactly post a pic. thanks

what exact engine do you have and what was the build date of the car (should be a white tag on the drivers door when you open it)
