I was changing the oil on my sv650 for the first time and purchased rotella 10-30 instead of the manual reccomended 10-40.
What is the difference? will this harm my bike?
i cracked the seal so i can't return it, I'm planning on just using it anyway as long as it can't harm the bike

Where do you live? If you live in a hot climate quit being cheap and get the right oil. The viscosity is lower in the oil you bought vs what is recommended. It is going to be a little bit thinner. If you live in a colder climate where it rarely gets about 80° you will be fine.
