So i have determined as per a mechanic friend, that my exhaust manifold wasn't tightened properly, therefore making a similar sound to an exhaust leak until the manifold is hot. and expanded.

So my question is... HOW???

Its a 4-cylinder inline

You were right on track with the screwdriver... a wrench has way to many milihunks of torque lineage and it will most likely strip the bolts which is a very costly repair.

So whats the chance of striping the bolts or just shearing the bolts off completly?

With a proper hexidiagonal screwdriver you should be fine as long as you go counterclockwise first. Make sure its on the milliamps setting though as well or you will burn it up.

ok i'm going to be honest... i dont know what that means... i have a ratchet set and a pipefitter's toolbox with all sorts of organized random shit... is there anything that i would have to take off within the engin*** in order to tighten the manifold to the block?

Well if you have the nitrous express kit hooked up I would go ahead and unhook that for sure. Other then that just make sure you have plenty of exhaust fluid because it will use alot more once its tight.
