So I bought my focus around 23,000 miles and I just hit 30,000 miles on it and I've noticed a extreme amount of paint chips for a car this new. No i don't drive anywhere rocky and get the car washed/waxed often. I did a little reading online and it seems tons of people are having paint issues as well.

My second issue is the automatic manual tranny that is shuddering between gears and making a grinding noise. I've taken it into the dealership once and they said it was a computer issue and updated it and it ran fine for about 2 months and now its all back again.

I've got the 3 year/36,000 mile warrent + the 7 year/100,000 power train + an extended warrenty.

I guess my question is if i take it back in and it comes back again what should i do? Not much into lemon laws but is there any on used cars? From what I've read online everyone says it keeps coming back and the paint is chipping so fast and ford is fighting them. (BTW i also have a 2008 Ford Focus and it has less chips than my 12 Focus)

Any tips? I'm obviously going to be taking it in this weekend but want to have some ammo if they fight me on it or it comes back. Also not sure what to do with the paint...I'd assume after a year or two the hood will look like someones BB practice target.

I'm going to but eventually my warrentys will run out and from reading ford forums online it keeps coming back for everyone or they get temp fixes and then the dealership wants them to pay for it.

Okay this is why i need help. What can i say/provoke to have them change it without them saying "we fixed it" or "that's just how the auto manuals drive" I drove both a manual and auto before and also the combo and none of them have this kind of problems. When i step on it to say switch lanes it feels like I'm in my dads 72 Chevelle and not hooking the the tires are bouncing.

The 2012 is known to have transmission issues from what I hear. This was the first year of their new transmission design and it didnt go so smooth...

Keep taking it in and make sure it is fixed right before your warranty expires

Is there a point where i have it fixed so many times and its still broken i can legally do something about it with either the dealership or Ford?

They will fight you until the bitter end but yes there are quite a few laws to protect consumers with things like this now. Keep a good record of it and if it continues to be an ongoing issue I would give them an ultimatum to fix it once and for all or you will seek legal council.

If paint chips are your worse concern it sounds like a good car. The transmission is covered by the warranty.

Personally I'd just get some paint chip repair kit.

$5 bucks
