Would a keyfob from a different car (within the same brand, or outside of) be programmable to my car?

My transmitter is being funky, and I have my SUV's spare key fob that I want to give a shot, but I'm not sure it'll work and don't want to mess up the programming.

Car: '03 Mazda Protege
Other Car: 2012 Mazda 3
SUV: 2014 Chevy Equinox

Would either of those cars' fob's work with my 03 protege? Both have trunk buttons, but the protege's doesn't.

If they are OEM key fobs, most likely no. If they are aftermarket ones with a brand like Python, Clifford, Smart Start, etc, then possibly but you cant just program one from one company to another.

Is there a model number listen on the back of the key fob?

Yeah, they're all OEM fobs.
2002DJ1089?

That shows a 2-button remote, when the protege is a 3-button remote

key fobs from the factory are programmed to your car specifically they wont work on other cars even if its the same year make model and everything. dealerships usually charge 50 for a blank key fob and another 50 to program it to your vehicle but you have to have the vehicle there to get it done.

Then you'd have to go to the dealership and do this:

I can program it myself easily, I know the steps behind that already - does the blank have to be specific to my vehicle, is I guess what I'm asking

The first part of my question (I guess) was whether or not a fob could be re-programmed (Answered, no)
The second part is whether or not a blank fob from a different vehicle could be programmed to fit my protege - the 2nd fob for my equinox (lost original, ordered this one, it's still blank) I haven't tested the second fob for my mazda 3 yet.
