Hi, I have a vehicle with some scratches and paint chips.
I was looking to wash it today and then wax it for the first time, I bought a random orbital buffer to do it.
I got a good idea on how to do that cause it's pretty straight forward.

The paint chips haven't begun to rust yet it doesn't look like. So I wanted to do something asap.
Will having a layer of wax over them prevent rust?

At the rear of the vehicle its pretty bad, a lot of chips. I was thinking of having that little area repainted.
I don't see any rust on the inside of the fender.

Thanks in advance.

Wax won't really do much at all. It's just a truck, kinda made for rock chips and the like you know I mean.

I was thinking of doing this, I was looking at it earlier.

And a fun fact: wax is actually harmful to base coat.

So if you're putting wax over an area with no clear protection, you will destroy the exposed paint even more quickly.

Thanks, never heard that before.

I think Im just going to do this : Touch up the small few scratches around the truck with a color matched pen and put a little clear over it, 2000 grit sand it down slightly and buff it.
For those many big chips at the back fender, Im going to have a body shop do those, there's a place near me that will do it for 175-200$ (both sides included in that price) the guy is always busy and looks like he does good work.

He said what I was thinking, repaint it from that character line in the body down.
I attached a picture to show you what I meant.

The trucks paint is in great shape for sure, just being 13-14 years old its got some scratches and chips, all of which look new tho
