I let my friend borrow my car tonight while I used his, he needed my car for the space (I had a 2003 Jetta Wagon) and he let me use his 97 Honda Civic. I get out of work at 1:30 a.m. to a call from him saying he's so sorry and hes payin for it and my car is, well. This is what it looked like when I got there.... Keep in mind, I have just gotten it, and it wasn't fully paid off yet.

Friend was completely sober, other driver swerved into two lanes worth of oncoming, drunk or texting. Is it still possible to not get an insurance "payout:?

Yeah no one will even consider fixing that thing with the damage that is done with it, and as long as your friend and yourself had insurance you should be good.

If it was another drivers fault his insurance should cover it. And you will probably get a better payout too.

this has nothing to do with your insurance unless the guy at fault did not have insurance. my coverage on my equinox sport includes if the other person doesnt have insurance mine will still cover my vehicle and any gap between vehicle value and payoff amount.

that guys insurance will be responsible for your vehicle

Letting people borrow your car is dangerous. If someone got killed for example you could be held responsible for the crime also.
