Jeep reading low oil pressure at Idle.. When I say low, I'd say close to around 3 or 4psi.

No noise coming from the engine, no smoke, valve cover is sealed, did a compression test on it and it reads fine in all cylinders.. My next step is to replace the pressure sensor, and if that doesn't work… Well fuck, oil pumps bad?

Lol of course that was the first thing I did, I've so far narrowed it down to a few things after I checked my compression..

-Rear main seal
-Sensor
-Oil pump

>_< I just hope its the latter.

Which engine? 4L I6 oil galleys plug up with sludge, blocks flow to sensor. They also eat cam bearings. That bleeds off pressure. if its that it will run quite a while before it dies. Tough engines...

i was goign to say cam bearings

its not the pump... because if the pressure goes up with rpm the pumps working right?

what weight oil are you running? if your having issues you can run thicker shit, it dosent fix the problem but it helps

and remember, as a general rule.... 10 lbs of pressure for every 1k rpm and you should be fine

My 4.0 i6 holds roughly 40 lbs at an idle, once warm.

The oil pickups in these trucks sometimes get gummed up leading to lower oil pressure readings; another area to possibly investigate.

I've heard of this happening especially with flood cars.

Yea its the I6, someone else was telling me the cam bearings could be the culprit. I'm changing out the sensor today just to see if it changes any, if not I might just throw a new pump on her

E: @Koj, I'm running 10w30 high milage, thats all I've ever ran in this truck. I figured if I drop the pan, I could check the RMS while I'm down there, but yes it varies, but not by a lot.. Like maybe 20psi difference from idle to load.

Curious what year and model Jeep?

Jeeps are notorious for having bad sensors.....hopefully its just that.

Ive never heard that before.

But none the less, its the cam bearings. Oh well, time to run it in the ground... I just hope it lasts me long enough to pay my current car off so I can go get my Willy :D.
