http://www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/articles/2014/4/1/nascar-three-manufacturers-potential-engine-changes-consideration-phase.html

so with the news that nascar is going to cut the engine horsepower by around 100hp my main question is how will this affect the racing. when f1 swapped to the new turbo 6 cylinder did they have a power decrease? if so is the racing any better or worse because of it?

with everyone being so close in horsepower anyway i dont know if this will really affect anything other than lap times and speed but racing has always been about who is faster. cutting the horsepower seems like a really bad move to me, i would think it would make more sense to get rid of downforce and put the car back into the drivers hands.

and im looking for answers other than "nascar sucks". i know most dont like it but you could at least try to show you have a little understanding of how hp and aero affects race cars and give a real opinion for a change.

I don't think the audience would even notice if it wasn't announced.

as far as being able to see the speed difference i dont think thats an issue. i think the issue is if it makes it harder to pass others or things like that. on saturdays the nationwide race is pretty damn interesting at times and they have less power than sprint cup.

Exactly. As long as the change is uniform you wont notice. The cars will be more controllable on corner exit though.

yeah but im afraid its gonna be more like nationwide where you can hold it wide open around these tracks. i can see one of the benefits being better tire wear. goodyear cant build a tire that can handle these cars and its been pretty evident the past few races with a lot of tire failures.

100hp will set them back to where they were 10 years ago. Still plenty fast. Do the nationwide cars use their brakes on the 1 mile + tracks? Im pretty sure they do. Now if they cut it 400hp it would change things a lot. You are talking about going from 800-900 to 700-800 across the field. Not really that big of a difference.
