Hi, My parents were gifted a 1996 Gmc Astro cargo van. It's a piece of shit to start off. Nothing is current, Tags expired, no insurance, Doors are fucked, (door panels); to be exact. Windshield cracked, very low tire thread & Won't pass smog.

The van Runs fine and has a pretty big gas tank. ( if that matters)


So what i want to know is, What laws are there if i were to sell this van in this condition & i do have the pink slip and it is registered under my parents name.

Would i get in trouble if i sell it as is, no smog check record, clean title record, etc.....

Only thing i do know is i know by law you have to have record of the smog showing it passes. What if i put the van in NON OP, could i sell it like that with out problems?


I'm located in California. Would appreciate any knowledge over selling vehicles.
