Think it's mostly surface rust? Idk much about body work haha.
It was on there when I bought the truck, I plan to repaint the whole truck in a couple of years after its paid off.
Think a tree branch hit it and skidded off cause im sure someone went off roading it.

It's on the roof of the truck, I didn't see it when I bought it, only time you will see it is if you are in the bed or passin in a 18 wheeler / bus or something, so idc how it looks really.
I just want the rusting to stop till it's painted.

I was just going to sand it down some by hand with 240, smooth it with 320 and put white primer/paint on it.

Ideas? Looking to go cheap, something I could just pick up at Walmart would be nice.

I've basically been asking the same question for the last week.

Sand, Prime, Paint... Ask Andy or SlyGosu if you need more help.

Bought all this shit ha, the little tube is for scratches and what not. Like white nail polish haha. Got that for touching up a few spots until I repaint the truck.

I'll post some pics when Im done, not going to be good by no means, just trying to stop the rusting for now. :o

Ok it looks like crap, but it was cold af and the wind was blowing like 25mph so I was in a real hurry.
Paint and clear also ran cause the truck was tilted (i was to lazy to move it).

Main thing was to just get it covered to stop the rusting for a while. Do you think its "OK"
Not a smart time to do it but oh well, as I said, its on the roof and you can't see it unless you are passing in a bus or something.

After I cleaned it some, probably could have sanded it more but oh well, let the rust stripper shit sit on it for a like 15 mins before scrubbing it.

Painted it twice then put the clear over it.

Also touched up some of the knicks on the truck with that little bottle, looks like crap but least it covered it some? haha
Be glad when I paint the truck.

It looks like you tried making the paint do more than it wanted to (fill the small pitting from the rust.)

Ideally that spot:

Strip rust with wire wheel (or do a wicked job with some 180)

Fill any remaining pitting/anything larger than a droplet of water. Using a polyester putty (bondo)

Feather/sand area to 180 dry or 220 wet

Prime only the work area (don't tape off the perimeter of the work, the line will never disappear once you do paint it)

Then either leave it in primer (all primers absorb water so you don't want it to stay uncovered for extended periods of time)

Epoxy primers are much better and hold up longer to the elements than air inhibited primers. You used the later, which is fine. But don't consider it fully "protected" until you get a real liquid coating and UV damage resistance to the area.

That's how I do it. Give er take. Pm me if you need any advice/info
