i'm currently a porter. they are promoting me at my dealership to "apprentice technician". that ofcourse means i will be a "certified technician is a few years but that all start with a lot of bitch work. at my dealership that means a lot of tires, oil changes, brakes etc. i want to learn as much about the basic shit as possible one the internet so i can come prepared like nobody has before and impress them. i know nothing about cars except the nonsense of "this car comes stock with this turbo blah blah." so basically treat me as a noob piece of shit please. give me links to the best learning sources for thing like tires, tire sizes, changes and all that great stuff. if you must know, it's an audi dealership so that would be more helpful. anything you got to make me not seem like a shithead in 2-3 months let the posting commence.

lemme explain further. not about oem and aftermarket because these no stick shift driving pussies come in day after day wanting w/e done and w/e done. i just want the foreman to attempt to explain something to me about tires and i already understand it. same goes for oil changes and anything else basic. i assume you already know working on an audi isnt the same as working on a civic.

Hm.

If I tell you I'm looking for a 225/45/R17 tire, do you know what that nomenclature refers to?

A couple thoughts off the top of my head before grabbing some much needed nourishment.

-There are different types of tires.

-Seasonal tires, like All season, winter, snow

-Tire tread does not ALWAYS mean good grip. That's only half the equation. If your tire isn't made out of the appropriate compound for the temperature/road conditions traction will suffer.

-Some tires are directional, and will say so on the sidewall.

-The sidewall lists all the measurements for a tire. And most vehicles also have a plate somewhere on the body of the car with a wheel/tire size chart, and appropriate inflations for specific conditions.

-Some tires are known as "run flats" and can be driven while punctured. However they suck the deal with from my experience.

Time for food.
