Whats the best course of action here?

My check engine light is on in my 2003 mustang v6

I took it to get the reader performed and they said something is up down there and they cant get a read. $85 to have them attempt to Fix the place where you get the read from. Its possible it could just be a missing fuse...im just guessing but that would be a dumb $85 fix.

Im no gear head.

Whats the best course of action here? If I cant get a read do I have to pay them $85 to fix that? Trying to avoid that I guess.

Are they getting a no communication with the scanner? With my Mac scanner I plug it into the adapter first then turn the key to run position then turn on the scanner.Try takin your car to a ford dealership if you haven't tried yet.

The fuse you will want to check is inside the car and labeled F2.31 (on the plastic lid, look for F2.31.)

9/10 they know this is the cause. The other (most likely) culprits are a broken ground wire or a broken 12v+ wire and you would generally get hit up over $85 to repair one of those.

He never claimed that the fuse was the problem, he's asking if it could just be a fuse rather than spending $85 so that his car can get its CEL read, then to later find out its a fuse.

so he could look in the fuse box and see if its blown instead of asking if that could be the problem. if you dont know which fuse it is check them all

Theres more than 1 fuse in the fuse box. And on most cars theres more than 1 fuse box.

Because a CEL instantly means its a fuse and nothing else, right?
