This is a long written out thing; summary below this-
Is rebuilt salvage title worth it, if you can get it for pennies on the dollar?
If you have any experience with rebuilt salvage title, please post, I don't want to buy one of them and get screwed.

Okay, I have been looking into possibly getting a rebuilt salvage title car.
The place I was looking at has a deal with multiple insurances to take the cars when deemed not worth the fix and combine to make a rebuilt salvage title car, so all that work is done it's already rebuilt title.
I won't need to go to the DMV and sit around just to get the title, I'm sure I'll still have some sitting around there to do about it, just not as much.

Anyways, I'm getting off the point.
I was informed someone got a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS with less than 75k miles (I'm not sure on exact here) for only $1,200.
The average price of the Chevrolet Cobalt SS (4 door) was around $8k.
The problem it had was the bumper was torn off and replaced with another.
It may seem like that wouldn't cause the car to be deemed worthless; however, my friend's mother did run off the road in her '07 Buick Lucerne CX and ONLY damaged the bumper which cost $7,000.

I'm aware that the damage could be more severe than I'm aware, I'm taking someone who has been working on vehicles since he was young with me.
(Currently helping him restore a '69 Dodge Charger R/T with hand painted rebel flag on it. I can post pictures next time I go over there if you want to see it. Also, doing it on 2 other cars from the OLD Dukes of Hazard, it's for his son.)

I have been reading up for quite a while and I know most insurance companies won't give you insurance or try to charge you quite a bit.
From what I have gathered, my insurance (Progressive) will cover only liability.
I also read that if you work on it to make it truly safe and get it inspected it will be covered and quoted just like regular ones.
You have to proof it's just as safe as new ones though. (I know someone who owns a car shop and won't charge me outrageously)
I'm mostly going to be looking through their stock (Waiting patiently of course) for a car like that with a smaller damage, maybe a hail damage one.

Please, share your experience/opinion, IF it has valid reasoning.
Thanks for your time.
I may have messed up some wording in there (I haven't slept in a long time) so if anything is unclear, let me know.

The only thing unclear is why you centered it. It hurts my keyes

But in all honesty they are more trouble than they are worth and impossible to resell for a decent price, most people end up obtaining them through not knowing what they were getting because they are that bad.

Really?
It doesn't bother mine, probably the difference in screen/browser, I suppose.

I don't intend to get great resale value from it.
I'm basically looking for a car around $1,200 that I can drive until it no longer runs.
Scrap will still get me a few hundred dollars, no problem.

I was curious about the trouble involved, if it is I saw a Civic with a transmission slipping for fairly cheap and then a transmission with 130k miles for 125$(auto, of course)

Thanks for the input, it helps before I spend too much $.

Really depends. I would just find a civic without a salvage or rebuilt title and drive it instead

Yeah, but figured I'd ask around and get more information before just making a choice.
No one was really 100% clear on Google when looking, some made it seem like the greatest buy in a long time while others loathed it.
I was hoping for a more middle ground of someone with a level head. I hate when angry people write a review, they never point out why things happened or anything like that because anger makes you lose reasoning.

That's basically what I was going for, DD to drive until dead.
I don't want my nicer go going up in miles a lot, it will decrease the value of that significantly and also have a chance of crashing it more.
(not that I'm a bad driver, just percentage wise it's obvious.
