Right then: as someone who knows f?!k-all about dirt track, what's he doing wrong?

I can see he's bleeding off a LOT of speed in the turns, but what should he be doing to maintain control without bleeding off that much speed?

He's not setting the car into the corner, he's not driving the car with the rear tires, he's slow off the corners, he's not running a good line looking for moisture

Dry slick= no traction

Moist clay= slightly more than no traction

if you watch the cars in front of sammy you can see the way they set the car up going into the corners. he needs to treat it like hes drifting all the time theres no speed if you arent sideways.
