Alright, I'm stumped here. I've got a Town car with the 4.6. I got rid of all 4 stock cats, and threw in some magnaflow highflow cats. Got rod of the Y pipe for an H pipe and ran it duals to the rear with a set of flowmaster 40's. The car is about as deep as I want it, but it's way too damn quiet. At idle it's near completely silent. It gets a little throaty when you get on it, but nothing serious . What am I missing? Any 4.6 mustang with 40's is super loud and deep. I'm sure I'm a little under cammed compared to them, but I still feel I should be getting volume. Any help?

Stock manifolds for sure. But any v8 I've ever dealt with that runs 40's is Much louder.

Also mufflers off? Idk sounds sketchy.

An intake and headers will help a lot plus net a bit of hp. Id start there before reworking the exhaust.

also, its the older 4.6 right? not the 3v?

I'm not sure what would be wrong but I agree that it would be much louder.

Post a video if you could.

They had the 3v before mine, but it was in the mark viii. Mine isn't the 3 valve. Also I'll get a Vid tomorrow.

my buddy ran cats on his truck and took the muffler off. it was a 2003 or 2004 silverado 4x4. it had a nice sound but it actually wasnt too loud unless you really got into it. the cats help muffle some of the sound on their own.

Agreed, but these tiny high flow cats don't really muffle that much sound honestly. I've always run 40's and never had issues, I'm stumped on where to go next. I'll try and get a video up today.
