So I will be getting a new(to me) truck next year, and I want a diesel.
For the ram 2500/3500 should I look at getting a 2004-2007 5.9L or 2007-2009 6.7L
Looking at them now and they both produce the same hp/tq +/- 20
Which is known to be the better engine? Obviously the price will be significantly lower on the 5.9L trucks.
Never been a dodge fan, but switching to diesel means I'm steering clear of my beloved fords.

That 5.9 6spd is where its at.
And i know your smart enough to stay clear of dodge auto trannys. Especislly if you will tinker with the motor.

And there is no real difference from 03-07 after that things started changing, new gen of the bodys etc.
And from 07 and up the prices REALLY start geting high up there

Ive done lots and lots of searching and just got shot in the face , hard.

But yes, 3rd gen is my fav by far

I would point out that 03-04 and 04.5-07 do have some differences. The manual is different, NV5600 vs G56, the injectors are different, the later trucks have multiple injection events. There is an interior update but most find the older seats more comfortable. 07 tail lights look like tits. 06 is when they went Can-bus so the electrical is much different. 06's have a lot of electrical gremlins that were fixed in 07.

03/04 makes less power but gets better mileage. 06-07 has efi live capability.

03-04.5 and 04.5-07 are much different....

Honestly i loved my 08 street truck. However with the money it took to get rid of all of the bullshit i could have had a twin setup on a 5.9. Not to mention, EFI live for the 6.7 is a PITA compared to a 5.9

If you want a solid truck with no issues. find an 07 5.9L with a G56. the ONLY problem they do have that is half ass common is the injection pump taking a dump. Nothing like the 03-04.5 though.

if you really want to get into it or need some advice on these, i can probably help. I might have been around one of these before ;)

I was looking for an 07 5.9l megacab g56 for a couple years and I only saw one with low mileage and it was gone so fast. I ended up getting an 09 6.7 mega Laramie which I absolutely love, but you will have to spend extra $$ to delete.

Thanks fellers, I'll have to see what I can find when the time comes.
Chances are I might end up going to ontario to get one, if I can't find what I want here.
Will most likely be dealer bought so I can toss in some shit on the financing.

Not sure where you are located but if it's possible, Texas always has diesels cheap.
