I admit, I like driving fast. It's not that I sit in the car and say: "OK now I'm gonna race to my destination!". I just like dynamic driving - like Loeb said: "If I go slower I'll lose my focus and risk going off the road". So, driving fast, I believe, makes me be more careful and watch the traffic better. On the other hand, I've noticed that most of slow drivers tend to chat with their codrivers, talk on the phone, think about what to make for dinner etc. That way they do not pay almost any attention to what's going on around them. They fall asleep on the traffic lights, they drive 20% below speed limit in all lanes parallel blocking the way for anyone wanting to pass them and enjoy the clear open road in front, they run into a car in front while typing SMS etc. Funny, but most of those "slow" drivers here in Europe drive French cars - like there's some connection...
Let me just add, I've been driving like this for 13 years now and have had 0 accidents.
What's your point of view on fast and slow drivers in traffic?

Kind of a childish post.

Some people don't see driving as something enjoyable but simply as a method of getting to point a, to point b.

A lot of accidents happen because drivers aren't in control of their vehicle or have poor judgement/reaction time.

I drive my car, my car doesn't drive me.

I agree that not all see driving like I do, but some things like blocking the way on "faster" lane, sleeping on green light etc. are more of a driving "culture" thing. If there's ever a car behind me and I'm in the fast lane, common decency is to move out of the way, same goes for starting on time when the light goes green, there's a lot of people behind me who'd like to get somewhere on time.

Going faster isn't better.

Driving smoother is.

It all comes down to paying attention, and thinking ahead. Speed, for the most part, is irrelevant.

Slow it down, you may end up hurting someone. Which you will never forgive yourself for.

no... driving faster isn't safer.

Speed limits are established and enforced for a reason. For the safety of you and everyone else on the road.
A crash at 50 will be worse than a crash at 30, a crash at 80 will be worse than a crash at 50.
Even with the most elementary understanding of physics this should be obvious.

It's all about having situational awareness, and you can have that at any speed.

Also Loeb's quote is about rally racing... not driving home to see his family after the race.

Agree with this

I have a led foot. Always have, just me. One accident. i was watching a bad ass big rig roll down the atreet not watchin the road.
But school zones and residential streets i slow it down, i couldnt live with my self if i hit a small child..
Theres a time and a place for it, people like us find those times more often than the avg driver.
One of my old ladys friends is always driving 70+ km/h in school zones and tight streets with cars parked on both sides and i lost it on her for doing this with my woman in the passanger seat after she almost hit some kids. She kind of learned.

Iunno, be smart and know your surroundings. 95% of the time i know how fast someone is driving, and what they are going to do ( BEFORE they signal or make it obvious - turn, slow down, seitching lanes ETC ) . Almost like the first time meeting someone and listening to how they talk and understanding the kind of person they are. Same sort of deal i apply to the road.
