I have a older jvc KD-lx10, basically brand new, hooked it up to my Chevy cavalier, but it acts funny.
I turn on the car, and it powers up, drops the front gate for cd insert, then shuts off, then if I hit another button it turns on the face lifts back up, then shuts off again.
I was thinking maybe the wiring? Bc the original stock radio I could plug back in and it would work fine.
Any ideas? I've looked on all the support threads and everything.

you bought a wiring harness right?

and honestly that thing is old as fuck so if you did buy a harness and its doing this....i'd just assume the head unit is fucked.

Yea I did. The deck came new in my dads truck, and he took it out and put it back it's original box and is in perfect condition. I don't know what would be wrong with it other than it's not getting enough power

being in perfect cosmetic condition doesn't mean the insides are fine.

choices are:

you did the wiring harness wrong
it's been damaged since its been sitting for like a decade
there is something wrong with the ground/power wires....rewiring these are pretty simple if you want to do it but i really doubt this is the problem compared to the previous 2.

Do you know if it's possible to buy a pre wired wiring harness? Like one that I don't have to cut and twist the cables?
One that connects from the deck to the original wires

if you cant put a pigtail on your tape deck maybe you should take it to a professional. this sounds like its way over your head

Well it is, I had a friend hook it up for me but I think ill just take it to a jvc dealer and see if it's bad. I got the deck and stuff from my dad for free so I'm not looking to drop alot of cash, jus figured since I had it and 4 new speakers that I might as well use it.

its better to get the pros to check it out otherwise you may get a short circuit and catch your car on fire. that would suck. you never know about electronics

go to walmart/best buy and buy a wiring harness for your cars specific model

if you didn't do this to begin with..thats the problem. cutting into factory wiring to do the install isn't a good idea when there are plug and play harnesses available for almost every car.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_60596_Pioneer-DEH-150MP.html cheap and a lot better than the one you are messing with. put in car info for free/discounted wiring harness/dash kit.
