So I got a new daily driver and have a chance to trade my civic for a very clean garage kept rx7, it's been sitting since 1994 the ad says so the motor doesn't run atm. But my plans were to swap in an ls1 or something of the such. Does this sound like a good idea, or should I hold out sell the civic and buy something that may be a better shell for a v8 swap. This is the project I wanted to work on though is a rwd import swapped with a v8. Have been looking for rx7s, supras, 240s, 3 series, etc etc. This car is pretty clean. My civic is a basically stock 97 sohc 5 sp vtec. Worth about 3k or so. The rx7 is listed for 2500. http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/3967379520.html
Thats the car.. Fits the look I am going for.. Just I have never done any type of full swap like this, just honda motors so far. Will any car be that much easier or should I just give this a go?

The car "looks" good in the pics. I would be a little bit wary...as with anything like this. If you aren't using the civic anyway though, what have you got to lose really?

Well I am thinking this is a good chance since its a trade for my civic. I want something to work on this winter and it's like it was meant to be or something.. Been looking for a v8 candidate that I liked for a while now, this has the olkder look I like. Most likely going to pull the trigger.

I understand your reasoning for wanting this particular FB, since he will trade apparently.

But after having L O T S of experience with these, for a 350/v8 swap you should really look into finding a GSL limited slip rear end, with the disc brakes.

Regardless, those will have to be changed/modified.

And it'd almost be a shame to get rid of a sub 95,000 mile 12a. Those little motors are literally known for going a million miles.

In my humble opinion. In regards to this car.

If you want a v8 swap. Find a beat GSL, youre going to have to take/cut either vehicle apart anyway, so why not start with something a little less complete. And it will also make it a lot easier cutting into something that didnt look pretty to begin with.

Personally, Id trade the civic (if youre down to lose 20mpg instantly) for this, then drive the hell out of it as is.

Youve never even driven the car yet. Dont swap stuff till you know what the car is like, you may actually love it in stock form.

My unimprsssive 2 cents....
