New to doing anything mechanical on my car.

The car is a 1993 mazda mx-3 1.8l v6.

will brakes all the way down to the metal hold my car enough to make it only go 15 mph. at the most?

its been sitting for 3 months because I thought it was the clutch.

My brother is a mechanic and has been for almost 20 years and told me to put it in first, try to roll it forward. then try to roll it backwards, if it doesn't move either way its not the clutch.

it didn't move. so I've been trying to do my first break job on this car. Luckily I work at an advance and most of my coworkers are mechanics.

The guy I bought this from said he had the brakes replaced early December. I got it late December. I'm calling bullshit.

this one side took 6+ hours to do because everything was rusted and locked in hard.

If the caliper is hanging up then it'll hinder moving forward obviously. When you do the brakes do the rotors as well and make sure you grease the caliper slides really well. When you push the piston in the caliper down to get the new pads on it should give you an idea how well the piston is moving.
If the clutch is slipping it'll rev high with no movement. Do the brakes make a lot of noise while moving?

thanks,

yeah they make a scraping sound when moving. just to get the car to move i have to give it enough gas to get to 4000 rpm.

Sounds like seized brakes and a blown clutch .
6 hours to do one side? Did you use a penetrating fluid, air tools or a torch?
Clutches are easy to replace, anyone with youtube can do it, or get your mechanic brother to.
