Background: I'm 17 and started my first job about a month and a half ago. My original plan was to save up money to buy my first car by the time school started again. I have about $1,000 + whatever my parents are willing to help me out with BUT, a very nice cousin of mine offered me a free 1997 Chevy Tahoe

the dilemma is that I originally wanted a small, economic car. It's a free truck though, so I would be saving all that money... Should I stick with a free gas guzzler which is harder to drive? Or use all my money for a smaller car

This. Tahoes pull a pretty decent trade value. You can get an econobox straight across probably.

I'd talk it over with him once I had that title in my hand. Then if he got upset about it, I'd do it anyway and tell him to fuck off. Needs take priority over pride.
