anyone ever look into doing this?
two of my close friends were thinking about building a car so we won't feel the need to take our DDs to the track.

The Miata we have is fairly close to a spec miata.
It would be pretty fun for an event, but the lack of power kinda kills it for me. Id rather just go to random track days with a LS Miata and have fun than run in events.

I know the Spec Miatas require a specific suspension setup and Im not certain how much that will run, but it should be a fairly cheap and easy build.
After I buy a truck and maybe motorcycle a Miata is next on the list.

the suspension required ls like 1500.

from what ive read, its about 8-10k to build a car without labor costs.
then we'd need to get a trailer for it.

I just looked through the rules for Spec Miata class and 8-10k seems like a high estimate if you just want to get in the door.
You should be able to find a cheap miata and build it up for under 5-6k pretty easily I would think. Most of the mods that are permitted are no/low cost stuff.
I didnt see it mentioned, but do they require a roll bar/cage?
Blackbird Fabworx makes some awesome 3/4 cages but i dont think it would meet SCCA rules
