98 Dodge Ram 1500v6

Hey guys my truck is being really frustrating lately. It will drive but is really sketchy.

It will drive in first gear, and wont shift to 2nd unless i pull my foot off the gas, and literally have to roll into 2nd gear.

While at the top of second gear it runs high rpms and never shifts to 3rd gear. If i hold my foot on the gas and right when its supposed to shift to 3rd it just has a bad smack sound.

So im not an expert at auto mechanics , i just assumed this is my transmission ?

Is there anything i can do to maybe temp fix this? I am soo close to a down payment on a new truck and don't want to waist my money on this dam truck anymore.

buy new transmission from salvage yard
get discount for bringing them back the one you replace so they can scrap it.

it should be very cheap to get one from a scrapyard.

Time for a rebuild Trans fluid got contaminated, bands got worn out, Fried the valve body. Nothing new for the 42RE. It's a shame they went so weak on the transmission choice for the v6 trucks. The same trans the put into the dakotas... Possibly upgrade to a 46RE or have a valve body and pump out of a 46RE put in when you rebuild it.

I did get the tranny serviced for like 300 bucks and it lasted another 3 months haha now its almost completely shattered

yeah u want to just get a Chevrolet in my opinion
