I see used cars priced above Msrp. Though these prices can obviously be talked down, getting a certain car, in a certain price bracket, is more practical than buying a used one.
I would rather spend a couple grand more to obtain a car with no miles and one that I know hasn't been abused.
Considering your looking at Mazda 3's, I wouldn't exactly worry about buying a used one that's been "abused". Those cars are pretty much only meant for one thing, decent gas mileage.
Buying used would make the most sense, especially if your buying before deployment. Buying a new car then leaving on deployment is just dumb, unless you never plan on selling the car(which I'd be willing to bet you do after awhile of owning one).
If you really want new, then like mentioned above, wait until after deployment and then wait for a good deal when the dealerships are pushing out the old models to make room for the new
