There is a problem with my power steering.
When i turn the wheel all the way it makes a loud whining sound. The wheel is easy to turn when the car is just started but over time it gets really hard to turn while the car is not moving.

I topped up the fluid but didn't change the old stuff. Nothing changed.

a friend said that it was the power steering pump but there is no leak or anything in it. I am going to drain the fluid and fill it with new stuff and hopefully that works.

Does anybody think the problem is the pump or something else?

Thanks

Car?

Ford?

Had this with my old T-bird.

Check the oil.

Turn the car all the way right and left, and get pressured air out of there.

If there is any sign of leakage, change the O-ring.

Otherwise, change the pump.

Its a 2006 Dodge charger. and ive been driving with it for a few days and no leaks.

Does that mean its most likely the pump?

Those pumps are hard to kill. Abusing your ride I see. :baby:

Check and make sure all of the brackets are right, and the hoses are properly connected to the pump.

Also, pay attention to the fluid when the car is running. If the fluid doesn't stay at a stable position, your pump is probably bad.

Not really, dodge/chrysler power steering pumps are as notorious for going out as their transmissions and air conditioning compressors. I've had this problem with two chryslers. You can choose to ignore it and deal with manual steering at slow speeds, or do what krnboi said and flush some good fluid through there.

+1

might even be posssible to pull a hose off the discharge side of the pump and let it drain out into a bucket, but I'm not really familiar with 2006 chargers.

I took out the old fluid.. replaced it . i think its the pump, i hear clicking coming from the general area of the pump.

Is there a manual that i could find to help guide me on how to change the pump ( im horrible with cars) and possibly with pics.

i found a guide but i dont understand the technical lingo so i need pics. i also went on youtube but the guy switched it on a 5.7L hemi police edition charger.. its similar but not the same.

i would really appreciate the help
