So my dad owns a few collision shops where we live. In his spare time, he likes to buy and restore old cars. He's had his 1971 Chevelle SS for about 10 years now, and he just finished a 1970 Z28, which he sold.
Now he wants to stray away from American Muscle for a dinky 308 Ferrari.. In my mind, it's going to be a HUGE money pit, and frankly quite slow. He's flying to Connecticut next week to check it out. What do you guys think?

This post is a violation of the site rules and appropriate action was taken.

If thats what he likes to do in his spare time then why would you attempt to take that from him? Sounds like you're a piece of shit.

I'm not telling him to stop what he likes doing, you imbecile. From the looks of your name and the fact that you're an obvious multi, I'm not the piece of shit in this situation.

For the actual helpful people on this sub-forum, I should have elaborated a bit more. It's a complete 308 that needs no work (yet). He's been looking for only about a week and is jumping into it way to early without doing much of any research. I'm looking to see if any of you have had any experiences with this car, and your opinions.

Well that's a rare car to begin with so it's pretty unlikely that someone in the sub forum has had first hand experience with one (as in, owned one).

I say let him make the decision for himself, it's always nice to have a change of scene from your usual cup of tea. In your dad's case, that would be going from american to european, in my case, I went from cars to bikes for a little bit.

That being said, it's an older car so for it to need no work, the previous owner must have, at the very least, maintained the car.

It sounds like you're attached to the american muscle cars you grew up around (assuming on your age here, sorry) and you don't want him to switch from them.

Hey who knows, it could be a mid life crisis car. Embrace it, who knows, maybe he'll let you borrow it so you can pick up some girls!

I preface this by saying that I am a Ferrari encyclopedia.

The 308 is actually one of the F cars that you can wrench on yourself, without too much trouble. It's not going to be a Toyota, but it's definitely a DIY safe car.

This is one of the cars I would consider working on myself.

EDIT: same goes for 328s

if for some reason this one falls through, and he is still looking for a Ferrari

I don't want him jumping into something without getting some research into it. And your name, Cars and Kush, means you smoke weed therefore anything you say means nothing to me.

I'm not worried about the manual labor itself, he's an automotive genius to say the least. I'm more worried that he's going to regret it after buying it because from what I've seen and researched, low to mid 80 308's have been alot of headaches.

I'm actually an import guy myself. But like I said, I just don't want to see him jump into something and then regret it later.

If he's an automotive genius then he should have no worries.....in general really...

But, it's not for you to decide whether HE will enjoy, or possibly regret HIS purchase. I'm sure if he is willing to drop around 20-30 grand on a Ferrari, he has probably given it more thought than you have, as he has a VESTED interest to make sure the car isn't a Lemon. (considering he is working on it, AND fronting the bill)

Headaches come with the territory. And being that he builds cars himself, he already knows this, and I'm sure is assuming for some issues along the way.

If he truly knows what he is doing, he will make a well informed decision, based on his pre purchase inspection. He's taking all the right steps. Let him have some fun.

And I'll leave it with this...

Anything worth doing, NEVER comes easy.

I use it for medical purposes and have a certification to use it in my state.
