Unless you get something top of the line their kind of a waste.

I know a lot of people who have got them and the fucking thing goes off all the time and most of the time you can't figure it out why and then sometimes they won't pick up cops in areas with interference.

if you get a shitty one then obviously it'll be a waste. This kid I knew who drove a fucking mazda hatchback bought one for his car because he was a dumbass. It was the shittiest radar detector ever. Half the time it would either go off and never see police, or we'd see police and it'd never go off.

If you can't afford a valentine1 or passport then don't even bother

with most of the cheap ones its pretty much only going to go off after you've been nailed.
cops are waay less likely to cut you a break if they pull you over for speeding and they see it sitting there on the dash
highway driving, its usually a whole lot easier to speed on the highway and get away with it (unless you are doing something reckless or over by a huge number)

Ill double check which one my bro has but it has saved us several times.

This one time in particular we were in his truck doing 90 on the freeway to Lake Havasu and the detector went off id say about a mile before we even saw the cop and kept getting a better signal until it passed by going the opposite direction. This was a SUV cop with visible radar units all over the front and back.

Btw there is alot of settings with his to change what signals get picked up, etc. The reason they go off so much is because it picks up all kinds of shit like garage door openers, etc. My bros unit is programmable and if you know there is a false reading somewhere you can program it not to go off on that signal.

It's not really worth it if you ask me. I love speeding but I also know when and where to do it.

but if you are gonna buy one don't settle for a cheap Cobra.. buy a Valentine or a Escort9800ix (or whatever the latest one is)

No radar detection available to the public will save you from a ticket. You either speed and take the risk or drive the speed limit and know you arent getting a speeding ticket. back in my criminal Justice class, our road-track day we put this theory to the test. We had kids with $800+ "jammers" that would have had speeding tickets.
