I'll be coming into a little bit of money soon, plan to start a little project.

Plan to take an R1 (insert other liter or higher bike engine) into a micro car. Needs ideas.

I've looked into a few, however the only plentiful car I've found (for a reasonable price) is an older, 70's Mini / Fiat 500. Are there any others like this? I know an older VW would be good, just the weight might be an issue.

Would love to get it legal, but if not, I'll strip it and make it a fun little trail machine for around here.

An old Rabbit GTI would be VERY cool in my opinion.

Bike engine isn't a very good idea, pretty sure they don't have reverse in those applications. There are however VTEC conversions for the classic mini, like a b18 or b16. And as far as a beetle they make EJ swaps as well as 13b swaps, even Porsche flat 6 swaps. Those would be far more practical.

x2 on classic Mini, provided you can get a shell for relatively cheap.

Maybe you can find an old Honda 600 or Datsun 510 shell somewhere, as well.

Also, ^^ what Decom said.

Reverse is relatively simple, just an extra cost. If you go with a bigger bike engine on the right model, you get reverse with them. As I said, if I cant get it road legal, it'll be a trail machine. That engine is a little heavier than I'm looking to go. If I went a Mini route, with engine and me in it, we are talking 1500 pounds at over 150 horsepower.

The 2 Door looks pretty good, plenty of room in the trunk / backseat too and only ~300 pound difference. Thanks for the input, will definitely have to look into them further

But that is TOO small. Something in the area of Mini / 500 or 600s.
