So im thinking of buying a b6 (2002-2005) Audi a4 1.8t quattro. Most of the ones in my price range have between 70 and 110 thousand miles on them which is right around the time the timing belt and water pump need to be replaced. Now i know thats the main repair bill that i should watch out for on audis. So my question is how much on average does that repair cost (including labor). Some people have told me $1000 and others have told me $4000 (lol?) so i wanna know if i should get a cheaper one and get it fixed myself or if i should make sure to find one that has recently had the timing belt and pump already replaced.

timing belt on a 4 cylinder is not hard to do, only people will charge more just because its afkn audi.

if you have a friends that are mechanics and that have changed timing belts/chains in the past it shouldnt be too hard to do it.

my mexican friends would probably change that shit for like 250 labour and 350 in parts

its 8 year or 12k miles (swe miles)

I'd say you should check how often the oil has been changed....these engines have some big prob with oil sludge since Audi recommend "long life oil and services " people tend to drive 3k miles before they change the oil which aint good and causes oil sludge.
Hope i helped you abit

Got a b6 myself so i got some info

Find one that had it done y would u wana spend a extra 1k+ after just buying it. The 1.8t have a slugeing problem to make sure they always used synthetic 5.0.2 vecocity oil I believe.

well they are good mechanics they always have work never a day where they arent doing something, they got all the tools lifts and plus they are cheap. no reason to go to some asshole mechanic who will charge 70/hour to tinker around with something

i trust these guys, they did an engine swap on my maxima, and they do alot of work for my dealership. i know ive had alot of experience with shitty mexican mechanics, sometimes they even take parts out of your car and replace them with older or broken parts.
