Looking to buy a truck but don't want to drop 20k+ because I'm a little tight on money right now.

i came across a red 2004 dodge ram hemisport, 4door, 4x4, automtatic, 8 cyl, 65,000 miles

Would 12,000 bucks be to much to pay for this?

Should I even bother with 65k miles?

I think checking out the forums specific to the hemi would be your best bet. I didnt realize how cheap those trucks are now, but I guess they are nearly a decade old. 65k miles doesn't sound bad, but I can't speak for the reliability of the motor. Not to mention the previous owners most likely bought the vehicle to drive it like it was a race car

Those trannis will break!!! I had an 06 I tore it up..never drove like an asshole but hauled a few boats (was not 4wd)

I don't think 12k is too much but as always see if you can go lower. Adult owned?

Look into possible repair plans. 65k miles is obviously good for 9 year life span.

Just went on the site and read the carfax.

Says it was corporate owned for 7 years and 8 mos. during that time the truck had 32,000 miles put into it.

in 2012 someone bought it for personal use and he used it for 11 months before selling it to the dealer. during that 11 months, he put on another 33,000 miles.

Now what does this tell me? Seems like non stop highway miles? Is this a bad thing or good thing? Seems like he worked it like hell over those 11 months

Ya 33K miles in 11 months is quite a bit. I guess I would take that as good thing because there is no way he put that many miles on it by not driving on the freeway constantly.

Main concern like someone else already mentioned would be the transmission.

Not entirely true. The biggest problem with these transmissions is maintenance related. I would not be scared of this truck at all. The motor is a great base for a truck. Keep up on the filter and fluid maintenance on the transmission and you will be golden. My buddy has 230k+ on a stock 46r and it still runs strong. The only update I would consider for you if you plan to tow 6k+ regularly with the truck is a deep dish trans pan and a tranny cooler upgrade. The failing point in these is the valve body. They WILL eat themselves with over sued fluid or contaminated fluid. Full flush and filters is a must on these. Not a bad price for a QC 4x4 tho
