Driving an 01 Toyota Celica, having a headlight issue.

Everything was fine until a couple days ago, but when I got in my car to drive home at night, I noticed my lowbeams were extremely dim, as in not lightning the road a foot in front of me. The high beams work perfectly, and both low beams "went bad" at the same time.

Now (a day later), if I have my headlights set to come on automatically, they are almost useable...but, if I switch them on manually, they go dark.

What steps should I take? Any ideas?

Thanks.

It's either a bad ground at the headlamp.

or

the switch is going bad, or is dirty/needs to be cleaned

If you have a multimeter you can test for both of these problems quickly and easily.

in the fuse block there should be a headlamp relay switch. try changing that. when they start going bad they can make your headlights go dim like that.

This is the more logical approach, usually a relay when both headlights go dim simultaneously.
