I was considering purchasing this car. 2000 BMW 323Ci, 6spd manual. 187k miles but they only want 6k which is exactly blue book for this car, and it's real clean and has maintenance records and a clean carfax 1 owner car. What ya think? I will of course test drive it first, but are there any things someone more familiar with BMW can give me any advice on what to watch out for?

regardless of maintenance, 190,000 miles is a lot of miles for a gasoline motor, in my opinion.

The issue with these era BMWs lies with the transmission, not so much motor. Which this car, I think is the 2.5, 170hp version. Which is known to be reliable.

Just give it a good test drive, but 6000 dollars for a car that maybe has 30,000-40,000 feasible miles before you enter rebuild territory seems like a lot to me.

Thank you for an educated response instead of "OMG IT HAS HIGH MILES DON'T BUY"

One owner car is nice, means he would be up on routine matienence.

I would look up the car and see if there is any major work that needs to be done. It could be due for a transmission rebuild at 200k miles and that will cost you big money.

The maintenance record and one-owner is nice, but that seems like a lot for that high of milage. Like others have said, regardless of how well it was taken care of, there is a good chance that it may need some major work in the next 20-30 thousand miles.

Thanks guys, I will test drive it tomorrow and ask if any transmission work has been performed, or any other major services.

$6000 is way to high for that many miles

does the carfax include a new transmission or a new engine?

Like above said, this is too high of a mileage for gasoline car esp on a BMW.

this car is close to rock bottom price so same kind of car 130k miles to 190k miles will go for similiar price. I'd say spend a few hundred or a thousand more and wait and find one with almost half the mileage.
