1999 Ford Contour Sport
Duratec v6
Automatic
Bone stock engine, trane, intake, and fuel system.

Started doing this after the oil change today. Start the car, it's at its normal idle (900ish rpm). After almost exactly 3 seconds it revs to 1700ish rpm, 1500ish 3 seconds after that, tapers down consistently til it's revving to 1100ish every 3 seconds. It continues to rev to 1100ish every 3 seconds for what seems to be an endless period (I watched for 30 minutes before I decided it was consistent). Under steady throttle it revs 200ish rpm from wherever I'm holding it every 3 seconds (in park, neutral, and drive). Any ideas? I don't know jack about these Duratec engines, or indeed most fuel injected/dohc engines.

chec/ clean the maf sensor, i remember my mazda goin berzerk rpm wise when i had my air intake issue and had my maf sensor taped inside a temp air intake fix lol. it could hardly hold a idle and rpm was never steady, but it was really riged up.
this is on a 2005 mazda v6, witch is pretty much a duratec engine ( not sure wat exact difference they have from the ones in the fords asside from the air box)
this was my emergency way back home afther finding out my hose between the air box and tb was beyond repair

It doesn't. She cooks my meals on the intake and keeps cold beer in the trunk

Dipstick was not securely inserted. MAF sensor is clean, oil cap is good. Problem persists... I have now noticed that a sound extremely similar to a relay directly coincides with the revving (once as it goes up, once when it drops back).

are you sure this problem wasn't around before the oil change? could it be something like a fan clutch going on and off for example?

if its oil change related i would have to assume its pcv valve related.

I know for a fact it wasn't happening before this morning. The oil change was this morning, and it's the only variable. No doubt random chaos is possible, but not probable. I really don't wanna hear that it's pcv valve related :( If no other sound theories pop up, it'll be going to a mechanic next week...
