Instead of putting 1500 into wheels for my 06 LGT, I've decided to put a nice down payment on a bike. I've never owned a motorcycle before so I'm thinking a 600CC
Looking for suggestions on which to get, would be a 2012 - 2013.

GSXR
R6
CBR 600 (hate honda's but I've heard they make nice bikes)

Any other suggestions?

they are all the same bike really...you need to just go to each dealer and sit on them and get a feel, see what your preference is

and yes get a 600..more than enough bike for the streets, 750s and 1000s are for egos, you dont need it.

I personally like the GSXR, started out with a 04 and have a 07 right now. Dont like the looks of the 2011+ though..

but really, you need to just sit on each one and get a feel for them, every bike has a different feel

Think I'll do that today, I appreciate the input.

Would still like a few more suggestions in terms of reliability etc

reliability isnt an issue with any of the bikes..take care of what you own and a street bike will last you a long time.

I have 32k miles on my 07 gsxr, not a single problem with it yet, besides tires ofc.....and 32k miles is considered a pretty good amount of miles.

really it comes down to preference..Ive rode a CBR and r6..they are great bikes..

Its like buying a 2013 ford, chevy, gmc, whatever..they are all great trucks, it really comes down to preference and the deal you can get.

Really what you should do is google each model and year..get consumer reviews on it for people who actually own the bike..not take opinions from people on here that is mostly going to be about the general brand rather than that specific year etc..

"2012 suzuki gsxr 600 consumer reviews, or pro and cons"

Only thing I would say is maybe get a little older one rather than overpaying for a brand new one that you are most likely going to lay down and abuse, etc.

Gsxr or R6 if you're wanting a jap bike. Every CBR I've ridden has felt like a turd. There a also the kawasaki 600 but I have no experience with them.

Good point. I wouldn't abuse it on purpose, but it may go down a few times seeing as though it's my first street bike.

if it were me I'd personally not buy a bike until you can afford to pay cash or nearly most of it off immediately. Reason is I've seen many a noob put down their bike only after a few days/weeks of owning it. If you put down your brand new bike leaving the dealership then you'll continue to pay off that broken bike + the fee of having to replace the parts = a lot of debt. I guess if they offer gap insurance on bikes that would work out?

anyways do you have any experience on riding bikes? like dirt bikes?

Depends how you ride and your luck. I bought my first street bike when i was 18( no prior expierence before that, dirtbikes etc). Im 22 now, and in 4 years of riding and about 40k miles ive only laid the bike down once. And that was 100% my fault. Took a trip up to the mountains with friends, i was still new to riding but wanted to go to the "twisties".Was an uphill road and at the peak was a sharp turn, i didnt know the roads and didnt really see the turn until the last minute, carried too much speed and couldnt make the turn lol.Seperated my shoulder, bike was ok though.

I wouldnt buy a new bike either though. They are stupid expensive, especially being your first bike. I havent looked up prices recently, but you can probaly get a nice low mileage 2007 for 4k or so?
I bought my 2007 suzuki gsxr 600 with 5k miles on it for 5200 but that was 3 years ago. And bought my 04 gsxr 600 for i believe 3700 or something but that was 4 years ago..

I have gotten away alot from street bikes though. I still own my streetbike but its a track bike now, i dont ride much road anymore. After awhile it gets pretty fustrating (because of my area i live in a very tourist area), having people cut you off alot, and having to deal with alot of traffic etc. Their is a track for cars/motorcycles half hour away so thats mainly what i do with the street bike now. Safer than the roads and actually gives you alot of riding skill
