Depends on if you get cast iron or aluminum. Even though they're fragile I would get aluminum. Might get a stock pair from a local private sale for ~150 or so.

im pretty sure that z28s/SSs with the lt1 only came in Aluminum
Also my boy just bought some lt1 heads for 50 bucks

Impala, Caprice, etc had Iron heads. He didn't mention what he was getting them from.

I say go cast, if you arent decking the block or the new heads. Aluminum if you go the machine shop route. Finding a non warped alumjnum head may prove difficult, and ive seen many people selling junk heads that claim "its straight".
Whats the end setup goal?
Aluminum heads? Cams? Assembly of a bare head?

well i think its ezier to find a z28 ina junk yard well around here thats the case, theres like 5 in everyone one
