...so, I guess there's a percentage of the driving public that has a problem with bikes lane splitting?

Came across this article on Jalopnik today.

http://jalopnik.com/5974948/heres-why-lane-splitting-should-be-legal-for-motorcycles

Some of the comments are just WEIRD to me. Mostly, the comments along the lines of, "Well, why do they get to just go, if I'm stuck in traffic?"

...

Uh... because they're in a vehicle that can fit.

I dunno; that attitude just seems weird and douchey to me. As it is, if I can see a bike coming up, I try to make room for 'em. I've had friends lay down their bike, to varying degrees of injury, so I'm all about making room for cyclists when I can.

Should be allowed, only what...5-10% of the population rides a bike? If you have the goolies to daily a bike you should be entitled to that shit if there's stopped traffic. But if you're going 150 and flying between cars then you can order yourself a side of dick to eat with that pavement when you bust your ass.

People like to lane change without looking during rush hour not expecting a bike to be flying in between lanes.

people are whiny because usually bikers are wreckless douche bags when it comes to traffic like that. Weave in and out hauling ass inches away from peoples side mirrors.

it's funny because people in big ass SUV's bitch about bike's and what they do on the road, but the big SUV's are the ones who mow them over when the driver doesn't pay attention

Its a good practice, however with all the young idiots who ride bikes in major states (especially here in Daytona, kids in highschool have motorcycles before cars), it would turn into a "I own the road, so I can ride the white AND have my own lane".

Definitely agree it works well, especially on the I5 in LA. Traffic is stupid out there.

in a gridlock situation i wouldnt have any problem with it. otherwise i dont think its a very wise thing to allow them to do. as was mentioned before people likes to jump lanes without looking or doing so as they turn their head to look. all its really going to do is add another element into already dangerous driving these days. also what if they are coming up alongside a semi and hit a blind spot and the driver doesnt see them and swings wide for a turn? they are going to get smashed. theres way too much that could go wrong and there really isnt much benefit to it. its like when you come to a lane ending for construction or something and everybody has to wait until they get to the barrels to get over and all it does is create more problems and gridlock.

plus from what ive seen personally most people on the crotch rockets that thinks they should be able to do this have absolutely no manners on the road and think they can do whatever and will cut traffic off in a heartbeat because they think theyre evel knievel.

also chow as to your first comment about "because they can fit" does that mean if i can squeeze my semi between 2 lanes of traffic i should be allowed to do it also? thats one of the dumbest reasons ive ever heard.

This.

Coming from driving on the 91 and 55 freeways 5-6 days a week for a couple years I saw alot of bikes. I always keep and eye on my rear view and if I see one coming I try to make room. I have no problem with them doing it. The only real risk is to the person riding the bike and if someone is willing to take that risk I think they should be allowed to.
