So some of you know awhile back I took my truck off roading and wound up in water up to the headlights which ended up filling both differentials and my transmission with water in the process :wallbash: (Yes there was alcohol involved)
When I got home I immediately flushed all the fluids but the damage was already done on the transmission. It drove fine for months and then slowly but surely the clutch material started to come apart and it started to slip during shifts. I decided to go ahead and have it freshened up before it caused some real damage.

In case people would like to see what caused the damage..

And the couple gallons of transmission fluid I flushed out.. (ran my trans cooler drain line into the drain pan and the intake side into a 5 gal bucket of fresh fluid and ran it for minutes)

So here is what I see when I pull the pan :o

At this point im still assuming all the hard parts and everything else are good. The trans guy takes it and to get hot tanked and then I get a call...

Turns out the bell housing was cracked pretty bad in two places :fume:

So then I did some research and found out with the early 1 piece case 4l60e's this was fairly common. I went on LS1 tech, etc. and came to the conclusion I was going to have it welded rather than spend the $$ on a new case since lots of people have had success with it. Luckily I found a local guy that had alot of experience welding transmission cases and I am pretty happy with the result considering it is shitty cast aluminum and only cost $35.

After welding:

Btw did the work in a little 1 car garage... was pretty fun to say the least. Anyways its all back together and shifts better than ever

lol you can imagine the kinda shit my friends give me. I have found out the hard way drinking and off roading is a hell of a lot of fun but can be costly ;)

Heres a shot of my giant work space. I can barely open the drivers side door..

Well the truck didnt die I turned it off because it started to drop off pretty fast and even though I was drunk as shit I knew I didnt have a snorkle, etc. and it would be a bad idea to try and get out going forward. Couldnt back up because it was all big ass rocks and white water not to mention my distributor and everything was already soaked so it would barely run.

Heres a pic of my friends before they started bouncing all over the place trying to pull me out

Edit- and so everyone knows my breather line for the transmission is now higher than my air cleaner so if im deep enough to fuck the trans up I have bigger problems.
