I want to keep it under $30,000, all wheel or four wheel drive, and a suv/crossover.

All bigger than the cx5. Though I think the cx5 gets better fuel economy cuz of smaller engine and size

This gets my vote as well.
My bro got one of the newer ones, 2012 I think... Its got a really small presence on the road. Somehow I can sit in either the front or the back at 6'3, in comfort.
Though if you're one to modify your stereo... I'd skip it. Its got a neat backup camera though.

If you don't need to buy brand new the new gen explorers are nice, my dad has a 2013 xlt for his company car. He puts a ton of km on it and hasn't had any issues.
