When I am stopping for a light or stop sign I just press the clutch in while braking until I'm either stopped or the light has turned green, then shift into whatever gear is necessary.
I've heard all this talk about rev-matching, but I have no tachometer. Is my method hurting the engine/clutch at all?
I drive a '64 truck with 3 in the tree.

It's not me I'm worried about, it's the transmission.

its not going to hurt it. the only time you rev match is if you drive something without synchros in the transmission like a race car or semi. otherwise its pointless thats what the synchros are for.

Which leads to my next question. I've always wondered why you can hear people at local small tracks downshifting multiple times in 1 corner instead of holding the clutch through and then shifting at the end of the corner. Why do they do this? Same reason you just said, cars without synchros?

i really dont know what you are trying to say here. best i can come up with is if youre racing you want to be in a gear at all times so you can give it throttle and the corners are no exception. dont know if that answers you or not though.

they do this to keep the engine RPM in the power band of the engine. 3750rpm in 3rd gear would have less torque and horsepower available than 5000rpm in 2nd gear (hypothetically)

you're not hurting your transmission when you do what you're doing
